With Labor Day past, the long awaited hockey season begins, and for the mites (8U)
and squirts (10U) it's time to hit the ice with our talented teaching staff.
Ken Uher heads up the Rebels youngest students (8 and under) with a lesson plan that includes skills, respect, good sportsmanship, and fun!
"I just love working with the little guys," Uher stated , "It is so rewarding when you can not only mold the skills, but have an impact on the social development by teaching good sportsmanship and citizenship." Uher takes the opportunity to also school his older players as each session includes volunteers from the 14 and 15 u teams. "I feel it is so important for the older players to give back some of their time," says Uher, "it makes them appreciate the sacrifices their parents make so they can play the sport they love."
But Uher is not the only veteran teacher that the rebels enlist. Kevin Young is at the helm of the 10 and under squad. "I love working with this age, " says Young, "They are at the point where they understand that their actions on and off the ice have an impact in everything they do. I can't explain the feeling I get when you see these players a few years down the road participating in community service and playing high level hockey."
Young and Uher are on the ice with their respective squads every week teaching what they love....and now that the school year has started, they are ready to play some games!
