The LI Rebels PeeWee Minor team had a great and competitive MLK, Jr. weekend at the Liberty Cup in Pennsylvania.

The boys played in an exciting semi-final game which ended in a tie in regulation.  The game remained tied after overtime and ultimately had to be decided in a sudden death shootout.  After advancing to the final they fought valiantly only to be bested by the Elmira Jackals 4-3.

Congratulations to all the players on a great 2nd place finish!

The LI Rebels Bantam AA team stunned the Greater Toronto Capitals in dramatic fashion this past weekend, January 19-21, 2019 to take home the Empire Cup Championship in Rochester, New York.

Down 3-1 with just 1:22 left in the finals, the Rebels got goals from Colin Beisel and Nick Bottoni just 11 seconds apart to send the game into OT. Another quick strike, as this time Jake Abrami found Brett LoGelfo just 15 seconds into the extra period to give the Rebels the stunning, come from behind win. Bottoni paced the Rebels with three points (2G, 1A) in the final. Matt McCarthy won his fourth consecutive playoff OT game of the season in goal.

There was no lack of drama all weekend, as each game came down to the wire. The Rebels needed a shootout to defeat the Los Angeles Jr. Kings in the semifinals, with Blake Hansen, Joe Lucente, Beisel and LoGelfo all scoring in the shootout.

In pool play, the Rebels started with a 2-0 win over Toronto. Jake Stella scored both goals and McCarthy posted a shutout in the win. The Rebels followed that up with a 2-1 win over Tomorrow's Ice (Md.) as Justin Young scored the game-winner in the third period. Max Gershowitz closed the door with a sprawling last-minute save to seal the win for the Rebels. The final pool game saw LoGelfo scoring two goals, including one with .07 seconds left as the Rebels secured the first seed in the playoffs with a tie against the Periton Blades.

The Bantam AA Long Island Rebels travelled to Brick, NJ on 8/2-8/5 to face off against some of the area’s premier AA talent at the War at the Shore tournament and came home champions after some gutsy performances. The Rebels finished pool play 1-2 after tough losses to Team Doritos (CT), 2-1, Philadelphia Blazers, 5-4 and a 6-1 win over the Westchester Warriors. Newcomer Jake Abrami led the team with three goals in pool play.

The Rebels then defeated Philadelphia in the semifinals 2-1 after a 7-round shootout that featured clutch goals by Blake Hanson and Colin Beisel. Goalie Matthew McCarthy stopped 6 of 7 penalty shots to seal the win.

The finals were a rematch against a well-rested Westchester team and again the Rebels found themselves tied 1-1 in OT. In the shootout forwards Brett Logelfo and Joey Lucente scored on the first two shots to set up Colin Beisel for the 4th round winner. Goalie Matthew McCarthy stopped 3 of 4 shots in the win.
