The Bantam AA Long Island Rebels travelled to Brick, NJ on 8/2-8/5 to face off against some of the area’s premier AA talent at the War at the Shore tournament and came home champions after some gutsy performances. The Rebels finished pool play 1-2 after tough losses to Team Doritos (CT), 2-1, Philadelphia Blazers, 5-4 and a 6-1 win over the Westchester Warriors. Newcomer Jake Abrami led the team with three goals in pool play.
The Rebels then defeated Philadelphia in the semifinals 2-1 after a 7-round shootout that featured clutch goals by Blake Hanson and Colin Beisel. Goalie Matthew McCarthy stopped 6 of 7 penalty shots to seal the win.
The finals were a rematch against a well-rested Westchester team and again the Rebels found themselves tied 1-1 in OT. In the shootout forwards Brett Logelfo and Joey Lucente scored on the first two shots to set up Colin Beisel for the 4th round winner. Goalie Matthew McCarthy stopped 3 of 4 shots in the win.
Congratulations to all the players and coaches on a successful weekend!
